Besides the obvious things, like family, friends, and my dogs, in the spirit of Valentine's Day I would like to mention a few other things that I love:
The sound of really sharp scissors cutting a piece of fabric on the cutting table at Jo-Ann Fabrics.
Paper clock faces and all of the variations of the "white" paper that occur with aging:
Painted details on vintage furniture, like the floral design on this 1920's bedroom furniture:
I love the fact that there isn't a sense of competition in the antique business (at least I don't feel one). There's an old adage that says the best place to open an antique store is next door to an antique store. It's so true! Banding together in an antique mall is another no-brainer. The more dealers the merrier!
Vintage award ribbons with lush details like metallic trim:
The color combination of red and turquoise.
Spray paint. I just love giving something a new life with spray paint!
My Michigan friend Michele's colorful ice wreaths that her family makes each winter. You can read the directions at smile, wink, nod!. Aren't they fun?
Life during the 1970's. It seems so quaint compared to everyday life now.
Beaded light bulb covers.
Dupioni silk.
Old books with embossed covers, like these dictionaries:
Swiss dot fabric.
Woven purses (these are just begging to be embellished!):
Young people interested in antiques.
"Oklahoma!" my favorite musical of all time. Ado Annie, Aunt Eller, Curly etc. Magical!
This ad for my grandparent's restaurant, "The Harmony". Wouldn't you love to try their Bittersweet Cake?
Pictures of little girls with big bows in their hair:
Upholstered furniture with tufting or other great details
Quirky little collections, like my grouping of advertising and cartoon figures:
Crocheted "granny squares", including anything made from them, such as an afghan.
Starbucks coffee.
Sitting around a bonfire at night. Usually this occurs in the summer, so I will have to wait quite a while for this activity.....
Happy Valentine's Day!
