My "picker", a.k.a. my brother Mike, recently hit the jackpot at an auction while I was in Florida and purchased a couple boxes of beautiful apothecary and candy store bottles and jars.
I really appreciate the beauty of old glass. I also appreciate the fact that all of these pieces are clean, and I don't have to wash anything....
I even think there's beauty in the lids:
Some old apothecary labels were glass, attached to the bottle by a layer of wax. That's why the labels are often missing or broken.
Apothecary bottles sell quite well in the antique malls where I rent space. They appeal to men and women, and make cool display pieces. I think the examples without stoppers make nice vases, don't you?
I have a busy weekend of antique-related activities planned, and will be announcing a winner of the "Howdy" letter contest in my next post. I've had a lot of fun reading your suggestions, and want to thank all the readers that submitted ideas!
