Today I have quite an unusual find I acquired at an auction several years ago. Even the auctioneer, who was very experienced, said he had never seen one before. Can you take a guess what it is?
Actually, I don't own it anymore. I put price tag on it and it sold quickly at the antique mall right after I took these photos. That usually indicates I had it underpriced.
It's a special implement that was used to curl the pointy collars on clothing. Apparently, there was a time when very long, pointy collars were popular. They had to be curled just so at the ends to look proper, and this tool was used. First it was heated, then the collar was wrapped around the wand like a curling iron.
In terms of value, I know it was worth at least $125 to one person here in Michigan. I couldn't really research it because of its rarity.
I hope you find something rare and unusual when you are out treasure hunting this summer!
