I have to admit that I enjoy watching the shows on TV where women pick out wedding dresses. There really seems to be a perfect dress for each bride, one that shows off her best features and disguises her flaws. It's amusing to see the trends in gown design, too. Right now the rather revealing corset bodice by designer Pnina Tornai seems to be quite popular on the show "Say Yes to the Dress". If you ask me, this semi-skanky design won't stand the test of time well, but maybe nobody is asking me.
I'd like to share some old-timey bride and groom pictures I found around the web and around my house. This first portrait must be from the 1930's, judging by the fashions and the Art Deco picture frame:

Big hats and Southern Belle dresses were popular for bridesmaids in the 1940's, perhaps influenced by the costumes in "Gone With the Wind":
I noticed the elaborate bouquets held by the bridesmaids in this wedding party, which I'd estimate to be from the 1940's or 50's:

I'm estimating early 1920's for this couple. Even veil designs have changed dramatically over the years, haven't they?

I'll bet you can guess the decade in which this wedding took place.......If you guessed the 1960's, you were correct!
The picture below shows my grandparents in the early 1920's. My grandma was only 16 years old when she married my grandpa, who was 32 years old. But they had a long and happy marriage, despite the age difference:
My parents were married in December. They were so in love they couldn't wait till June! My mom carried gardenias in her bouquet (not pictured), her favorite flower because of the beautiful scent. They were happily married for 65 years!
If you were a June bride, Happy Anniversary!
