Since I've been buying and selling antiques, I've done pretty well with signs. Men love them, and women can often find a place for them in home decor if they have enough charm. But there are some signs that must be viewed from afar, and one day as I skimmed through my photo images I realized that I was a hoarder of sign images (among other things). Today I thought I'd share them with you.
The Palace Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota:
The Michigan Theater in Jackson, Michigan:
The marquee:
The image below shows the stunning cupola on the theater:
This is my favorite: Miller's Shoes in Jackson, Michigan. If I lived in a loft, I'd want that big shoe hanging inside as a focal point:
The Hotel Adams in Jackson, Michigan. Simple, but it has an old-timey look:
Such a classic! Mickey's Diner in St. Paul, Minnesota:
Great Art Deco lettering:
This sign for Fitzgerald Theater ain't goin' anywhere: it's painted on the side of the building in St. Paul, Minnesota:
A simple sign for antiques has a lot of appeal to me:
Zoobie's Tavern in Lansing, Michigan has a reminder of the space race:
An old Lansing street sign for sale at Lambs' Gate in Old Town (Lansing, Michigan). I guess I should have bought this when I had the chance, because it's not there anymore:
I used to work at the Ward Theater in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The entire facade is an Art Deco masterpiece:
It's not vintage, but my parents' old store (now owned by Beth Ressler) in Naples has a lovely handpainted tile entryway that my mom dreamed up. I think it's absolutely charming:
Do you have an interesting old sign in your hometown, or one you snapped a photo of on a trip? I'd love to compile a blog post of reader signs, and perhaps there might be some kind of giveaway involved! I would like to get at least six different readers to contribute. You may send your image in an e-mail attachment to: mitziscollectibles@comcast.net
