Yesterday I almost missed out on a buying opportunity at an estate sale: a nice little cache of half dolls. I almost missed out because it was the second day of the estate sale, and I figured the collection of half dolls would be picked over by the time I got there, having missed the early morning line-up. But as I headed out to run errands, I decided to swing by anyway.
When I arrived at the sale, the house was picked pretty clean except for the collection of half dolls! I was able to pick from quite a variety. They were all "Made in Japan", nothing spectacular, but still charming and affordable for both me and my antique mall customers. I plan to put a couple in my Etsy shop too.
These are all pincushions except the tall one in the back:
This example has legs, which gives her more value:
These half dolls are waiting to become something. A clothing brush, pincushion, or maybe a lamp:
Here's the whole flock:
I hope there are some customers out there who are ready to start a collection of half dolls. These aren't rare, unusual, or expensive examples. They're in good condition, pretty, and a couple of them would be a great base for a new collector! I think they would make a nice gift for a girl or young lady, too.
