Today I have a fun word that I'm going to challenge you to work into a conversation somehow this week. And if you can swing it, I want you to tell me about it!
When I came across this old poster for a musical play, The Rollicking Shannon, I didn't know what the word "spalpeen" meant. The Typepad Blog spellcheck doesn't recognize it. Do you?
According to Webster's online dictionary, a "spalpeen" is "a scamp; an Irish term for a good-for-nothing fellow; -- often used in good-humored contempt or ridicule."
Now the word "spalpeen" probably won't help you all that much in your hunt for vintage treasures, but I had to throw it in here because I wanted to show you my poster, and I just thought it would be fun!
I plan to somehow get this poster framed, perhaps by dry-mounting it to preserve it first. Does anyone have an opinion on that? It's extremely fragile, as you can see....
