Passementerie is our word for today, and it's something I just love! Passementerie includes braid, cord, fringe, tassels, and pompoms. Passementerie is found on clothing, such as couture and bridal gowns; furniture, such as "gimp" trim; and home decor, such as curtain tassel trim and lush tassel tiebacks on silky cords.
I often search for "passementerie" on Ebay just to see what pops up:

When I go to estate sales, I search for trims and passementerie to add to my collection. You can never have too many trims and tassels! Someday these might come in handy when a lampshade needs sprucing up:
You can refer to trims, gimp, and tassels as "trimmings", or you can call them "passementerie", which makes you sound much more informed, don't you think?
