Choose a surface to color on. If you are using a loose leaf coloring page you will want to find a hard surface to work on, while coloring books allow you more flexibility.
Vary your strokes to add depth to your drawing. Crosshatching is a popular and fairly simple way to create depth using variation in strokes. Crosshatching is done by drawing overlapping sets of lines at right angles (this pattern should look mesh-like).
Search for “fantasy coloring pages” for pictures of dragons and more! If your child likes knights, dragons, princesses, and castles, they’ll probably enjoy coloring images of fantasy creatures.
If you think your utensils could smudge, either color the center of your picture first and work your way outwards, or to start at the top of your page and work your way down.
Browse for pictures of characters from popular animated movies. Try searching for something like “recent Disney movie coloring pictures” or “Pixar character coloring pages.” Kids like coloring this type of picture, since the characters are instantly recognizable.
There is a huge variety of coloring pages that are available online for free. Use a search engine to find the pictures that you are looking for, such as specific cartoon characters or animals. Then print as many copies of the coloring pages as you prefer.
