A Few Words About Me
My name is Mitzi Curi, and I'm a one-woman enterprise with oodles of ideas and enthusiasm within my world of vintage collectibles and crafty treasures. My current ventures include rented retail space at three quality Michigan antique malls: the Antiques Market of Williamston; the Livingston Antique Outlet in Howell; and the Mega Mall in Lansing. I also have an Etsy store, where I sell "Vintage and Handmade Treasures". I began my blog so that I can impart my knowledge about antiques to others while promoting my business, but it's become much more than that. It's a labor of love and something I enjoy immensely. I hope to encourage readers to explore ways to add what I call "Old Timey" goodness to their lives by shopping flea markets, antique malls, auctions, and online selling venues.
If passion could be measured in the blood, my level would be off the charts! I can barely contain my excitement when I come across a box of old photos, a Victorian-era scrapbook, or a boxfull of depression glass. I have sold everything from an old coffin to bedroom furniture, Steiff toys, costume jewelry, yellow ware pottery, hats full of millinery blossoms and enamel advertising signs.
Since I began my antique business thirteen years ago, I have accumulated a large stash of favorite vintage goodies that lend themselves to crafting. Old bottles, lampshades, cutter quilts, lace, ribbon, cabinet photos and paper ephemera are favorite ingredients in my crafting adventures. Right now I'm crazy for yoyo quilts that were made from feedsack fabrics during the depression years. I'm "upcycling" loose yoyos from unfinished quilts and combining them with old buttons into fun embellishments.
The time is right for people to stop buying cranked-out junk sold at big box and chain stores and start surrounding themselves and gifting others with decorative objects that have meaning. That's why I like Old Timey treasures. They have a past. They have a story to tell. They have more value than something new, even if they actually cost less! The same can be said for handmade items, including original art, crafts, and creatively re-purposed vintage materials. Mixing Old Timey and handmade treasures with modern life is a trend that is gaining momentum, and I want to be right in the middle of it all!
